⛅ Minimum dose of sleep, Milk Road, and the trouble with optionality
2 minutes to make you healthier, wealthier, and wise
Happy Monday!
Last week I published one of my favorite articles, “If You Want to be Happy, You’ve Got to Fight for It” on Elephant Journal. It’s definitely worth reading (or re-reading) every now and then to remind yourself you’ve gotta work for your happiness. Also, I’d really appreciate it if you check it out and toss a like if you can.
Ok, enough self-promotion, onto the meat of the newsletter.
🥗 The true minimum amount of sleep for weight loss
One of the largest and longest studies to date on adult sleep habits and weight is the Harvard Nurses’ Health Study, which tracked 68,000 people (notably American, middle-aged women) for about 16 years.
Here’s the good news — if you can’t get 8-9 hours of sleep, you can still be healthy.
The bad news is that sleeping less than 6 hours a night means weighing an average of 5 pounds more and a 15 percent higher chance to be overweight compared to people who sleep at least 7 hours a night.
Yes (as with every study) there are caveats, but the takeaway is to aim for at least 7 hours of sleep and 6 at the bare minimum.
💸 An easy way to keep up with the latest crypto / defi news
I’m actively subscribed to less than 5 newsletters. Well, at least besides the ones that involuntarily send me emails even though I’ve tried to unsubscribe (or never subscribed in the first place).
Anyway, one of those newsletters is Milk Road, and it’s legit the only one I need to keep up with all the latest news and trends in the worlds of crypto and defi. They send one email per day Mon-Fri, and it’s drastically reduced the amount of time I waste scrolling Twitter and other newsfeeds for crypto-related info.
If that sounds at all interesting to you, I highly recommend it. Here’s a link to the newsletter just in case.
🧙 Hate setting new passwords? Me too, but here’s why we do it.
Nat Eliason posted this tweet last week which led me down a wonderful several-hour rabbit hole, where I would’ve continued to dig had I not been yanked out of it (looking at you, work).
Nat’s question surfaced a TON of awesome book and essay recommendations, many of which I have yet to read. But so far my favorite is The Trouble with Optionality.
10/10 for me.
Have a good (no, GREAT) week.
Best,
Jason
